SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

You will find two special announcements in this newsletter. One concerns the Pinellas Talking Book Library’s new Friends Group. We have had several Friends meetings with interesting speakers, and feel sure this next speaker will also discuss issues important to our patrons and their families. Please join us at the next Friends Meeting, Monday September 24th at 9:00 a.m.  Afterwards, stay to tour the library and meet your Reader Advisor. Be sure to check out several books while you are here, and maybe a Descriptive Video as well.

The second announcement is from The Watson Center, located on Bryan Dairy Road in Largo. They would like for you to know about several classes they will be sponsoring this fall and invite you to attend. Size is limited, so sign up right away.

FRIENDS OF THE PINELLAS TALKING BOOK LIBRARY INVITE YOU AT ATTEND

A Community Education Series, presented by The Watson Center, is being sponsored by the PTBL Friends group for the September meeting. Learn more about the services available to Pinellas County residents who live with vision impairment and blindness and do not know where to turn in the Specialized Services for People Who are Blind and Visually Impaired seminar.

Also learn how to move around in the community safely with Travel Techniques for Persons Who are Visually Impaired and how to make traveling with a blind person easier with Tips for Guiding a Visually Impaired or Blind Person.

Seminars will provide information that could save your sight or the sight of someone you love.

All presentations are presented by Molly Koon Kellogg, Community Education and Advocacy Manager at The Watson Center.

For more information, please call 441-9958.

Have You Read a Great Book? Don’t Pass It Along

It’s so tempting! You’ve listened to a terrific book and you want to share it with a friend who also uses Talking Books. What would be the harm in just passing it along?

Well, just like a public library, PTBL has long lists of readers waiting for terrific books, so if you pass your copy along, those who have specifically requested that book must wait even longer. Also, we will have no way of knowing that your friend has read the book, and may send it to them a second time thinking they have never read it. So tell you friend about the book and they can request a copy for themselves.
