WHAT
IS CMLS?
CMLS is the mailing service located in Melbourne, Florida that sends out NLS catalogs and magazines to library users all over the country. Even though CMLS’s address may appear on your catalog, please do not send them your book orders or correspon-dence. This will slow your request, as they forward such mail to us. In addition, CMLS will cancel the subscription for any item returned to them—no questions asked. It is better to call us and explain the situation.
National
Volunteer Week
The
week of April 23rd is a time to celebrate all the important functions
performed by volunteers across this country. The Pinellas Talking Book Library
has a great crew of volunteers who dedicate their time and efforts to assist our
patrons.
We
have 23 volunteers who come to our library each week and carry out many of the
tasks necessary for a smoothly operating library. These duties include:
·
Book
sorters who sort incoming mail into numerical order, separating damaged books
and misdirected mail.
·
Book
inspectors who ensure the cassette books are complete, in good condition, and
rewound for circulation to patrons.
·
Book
shelvers who shelve returned books.
·
Shelf
readers who locate misplaced books.
·
And a
variety of other duties such as contacting new patrons to ensure receipt of
their player, catalogs, and books, and to answer any questions about their
library services.
In
addition, we have 48 Book Buddies who work out of their homes, contacting
patrons via telephone to assist in ordering books from the newest Talking Book
Topics or annual catalog. If you would like to have a Book Buddy contact you,
please call us.
We
salute all our volunteers!
