Services provided:
The Literacy Council's mission is to provide adult learners with one-on-one, free, confidential tutoring to develop or improve speaking, reading, writing, English as a second language and basic life skills. They meet at the following locations: Dixie Hollins, Lakewood, Northeast, pTEC, Tomlinson and St. Pete College/Seminole Community Library. New sites are under consideration, please contact us for the latest locations. Each site has specific times/days and rooms allocated for tutoring during the school week.

Literacy Materials/Collections:
An extensive collection of books from New Readers Press and a variety of other publishers written especially for the Adult Learner with limited reading skills are available to tutors and students at each location. Computers with literacy software geared for the Adult Learner are also available at all tutoring sites.

Literacy Volunteer Tutor Training:
Tutor training workshops are scheduled three to four times a year. Each workshop is ten hours in length (Friday evening and 9-4 on Saturday). An In-Service Workshop is held annually to offer new tutoring information to tutors. The Literacy Council newsletter is published quarterly. Additionally, the Literacy Council holds its Annual Awards Dinner in May and a barbecue in October/November.
